Tell us about you…
I live and work in the Sharrow area of Sheffield designing apps for story-writing and reading through my company Storyjacker. I also write for a living.
What does Sheffield mean to you?
I love Sheffield’s rebel history. It’s been an industrial powerhouse, a hotbed of sedition, a 1920s gangland and a socialist republic (of sorts). Where else can say that?
What’s your favourite Sheffield place?
Since my days as an art art student here, I’ve been inspired by the compact size and massive ambition of the Site Gallery.
And for the ultimate pub garden, I love the Cricket Inn in Totley. Right out on the edge of the Peaks, there’s a huge playing field for kids and a great view of the nearby hills.
What would you do to improve the city?
The Roco Creative Coop is a great initiative. We should renovate more of Sheffield’s historic industrial architecture to keep the city’s aspirations for the future rooted in the successes of the past. I think affordable spaces for startups will increase interest in the city, especially as London and the south-east become prohibitively expensive.
