Known for their delicate melodies, captivating storytelling and achingly personal lyrics, Glasgow’s Belle and Sebastian are one of the UK’s most beloved and endearing indie pop groups. Amassing a dedicated fanbase along the way, they belong alongside luminaries such as The Smiths, Pavement, Nick Drake and The Cure.
This December, they’re celebrating thirty years since the release of their landmark album, If You’re Feeling Sinister. Their sophomore release has become one of the most influential records in independent music, spawning whole sub-genres off the back of it.
Pitchfork called the album ”a streamlined juggernaut whose layered character studies were filled with exquisite literary and musical detail.” while Stereogum praised lead singer Murdoch for the “sort of shy, alienated warmth that he got across better than any of his peers ever could.”
