Nominated for the Youth Jury Award, Katwe paints the portrait of a salt-mining community living between Uganda’s Katwe Salt Lake and a national park. Director Nima Shirali follows the transformation of the salt lake in the collective imagination through the eyes of an enthusiastic teacher, a jaded caretaker and a sharp-witted mother. As a local politician makes and breaks grant promises of development, the locals reflect on their future.
