Kokuho

In Nagasaki, 1964, the death of a Yakuza gang leader puts their orphaned 14-year-old son under the care of a famous Kabuki actor.

Alongside the actor's only son, he decides to devote himself to this traditional form of theatre.

As he enters the world of Kabuki, growing up beside his mentor's son, a rivalry and ambition shapes the future of their lives.

A compelling story which spans 50 years, following the bond and rivalry between two brothers – charting friendship, history, hierarchy and tradition – on the quest for perfection, and the majesty and ruthlessness in life and art.

Kokuho has broken records to become the highest-grossing live-action film of all time in Japan.
