One of the first “landscape cemeteries” in the country, Sheffield General Cemetery was designed as a place for both the living and the dead, enjoying a hillside spot between Ecclesall Road and Cemetery Road. The sprawling site is rich in history, wildlife, geology and architecture, and tells the story of the people of Sheffield between 1836 and 1978.
Take a short historical tour on the first Sunday of each month to learn more about the cemetery’s story.
Tours start at 1pm, 1:30pm and 2pm – book in advance (tickets usually released a month in advance).
A bookstall and cafe at the Samuel Worth Chapel also opens 1:30–4pm on tour days.
