“Time flies. Time stands still. Time is against us and time is on our side…”
The above words open The Time is Now, the new exhibition at Millennium Gallery. It couldn’t have landed at a better moment; in a world where our time is increasingly stretched and we are expected to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it’s important – timely, even – to consider how we view time and how we are all bound by it.
The Time is Now presents a range of work from sculpture to painting, film to installation, from ten contemporary artists: Helen Chadwick, Berris Conolly, Braco Dimitrijević, Ruth Ewan, Andrew Hunt, Ruth Levene, James Nares, Jorge Otero-Pailos, Katie Paterson, and Mathew Weir. It includes some pieces from the Museums Sheffield archive as well as a large body of work on loan from the artists themselves.
The exhibition pivots between two points: the subtle passing of time and the expansive nature of time itself.
