Completed and opened in 1959, the Grade II* listed St Paul’s in Parson Cross was designed by noted architect Sir Basil Spence whilst he oversaw construction of the new Coventry Cathedral.
Situated on the high street of the 1940s estate, St Paul’s is a testament to modernism’s ability to deliver striking results within a minimal budget using basic materials (brick, steel, concrete and glass).
The church is a relatively simple structure of high-sided brick walls, full height windows at either end and capped by a barrel roof. Its presence dominates with a refined bell tower: two brick walls joined together by a series of concrete platforms, topped with a six-foot concrete cross.
