In 2020, artist Florence Blanchard transformed a fairly empty public square in Sheffield city centre into a playful, 1000-square-metre painting.
Titled Bounce!, Florence created this huge floor mural to bring some brightness and joy to the patch of land known as Pinball Park as part of the City of Ideas project. In the heart of the Cultural Industries Quarter, Pinball Park was originally an outdoor space for the short-lived National Museum of Pop Music, until it closed in 2001. With its pops of colour and fantastic flowing forms, Bounce! now makes the ground at Pinball Park come alive with energy. It's impossible to pass by without feeling drawn in to sit or play a while.
