Tucked away beneath Sheffield's beautiful Central Library, the Library Theatre feels like a bit of a secret. Its entrance opens into Tudor Square, though – the same as its neighbours the Crucible and the Lyceum – so in spite of its secretive nature, it's very much situated in Sheffield theatreland.
The atmospheric art deco gem houses a mixed programme of am-dram, comedy, local history and burlesque, and the under-the-radar vibe only adds to the enjoyment. During the war it was used as an air raid shelter and for showing Ministry of Information films – it’s your civic duty to visit!
