The Nichols Building

The Nichols Building, Shalesmoor, S3 8UJ

Open Tuesday-Sunday 11am-5pm

Just thinking about the Nichols Building lifts my spirits. Housed in a beautiful old warehouse (formerly a grocery wholesalers) off the Shalesmoor roundabout, near Kelham Island, it is a haven of vintage treats.

I could happily live in the Nichols: playing records, drinking tea from china cups, trying on the vintage attire and making jelly from rabbit shaped moulds. Conveniently enough, it’s just across the road from OFP HQ.

Our favourite bits include the retro homeware in the far left corner and Mr Truffles' stash of records, all in perfect nick. Our latest haul included the Grease soundtrack, Harry Nilsson’s Nilsson Schmilsson and Gladys Knight and the Pips’ Midnight Train to Georgia – all three for the princely sum of £1.50.

After a browse we like to relax in the cute cafe with a pot of lemon tea and a slice of homemade cake, before having a good wander down the cobbled lanes of nearby Kelham Island and rounding off the trip with a pint of something dark in one of its many incredible real ale pubs.
